The Natural World
Describe your first memorable experience exploring and spending time in nature. Were you in awe? Or were you not impressed? Would you rather spend time in the forest or the city?
I have been in nature many times, and I can remember many wonderful times. My favorite memory, and the ones that have stuck with me most are the times that I went to Camp Gallagher in the Jemez mountains as a child. Even now, just thinking about it, and trying to choose which memories to write about, they ALL come back and flood my soul with the happy dance! I can remember fishing in the creek, never catching anything! I remember hiking to the top of the mountain (or a peak in the camp area) to sleep at the top of the mountain, that was the BIG night for each group. I can remember the nightly campfires, where we would sing songs and the camp councilors would do skits for us. I can see the tents in my mind, on pallet like floors. I can smell the inside of the tents. Sounds gross, but it's heaven. I can even remember how it felt to REALLY have to pee in the middle of the night, but not wanting to go to the outhouses alone in the dark! I loved playing Capture The Flag in that GIANT field, with cow pies, that I won't say I didn't slide into a fresh one once, but I sure wont admit that I did!
I loved that camp, wanted to send my kids there too, but alas, by the time they were the right age, it was not open anymore. :(
I honestly think that the love I felt for that camp was just as much about being in nature, as it was about the experience as a whole.
Ahhhh, happy childhood memories.
Thanks for reading
